post Flying Star Expanding . . . Again

February 29th, 2008

Filed under: announcement — Andrea Lin @ 8:29 pm

Well, its past 20 years that Flying Star (or Double Rainbow of years past) has been both tempting locals with sweets and pissing off damn near everyone it seems with their price increases.

I have defended Jean and Mark in the past, and I will continue to do so, and I will also start bitching the moment things start going downhill.  I send emails monthly to Jean letting her know that something tastes awesome or that the coffee pots aren’t changed frequently enough, and it is this kind of feedback that keeps restaurateurs on their toes and serving the public – which is of course the way that they remain profitable.

So, they begin to break ground in Santa Fe, and also near completion of a huge Bernalillo complex combining work, eats, and residential units.

  1. I’m sorry to say that I have watched the quality of the service and food deteriorate in many of the Flying Stars, particularly the NobHill location.

Orders often to not arrive in a timely manner and hot food is cold. The dishes and utensils often have to be replaced because they are not clean. Sometimes they are “out” of an item that is part of a dish ( particularly sandwiches ) and neglect to tell people that fact but deliver the incomplete item anyway. It’s not enough to have a manager offer a “comp” when it happens so often. I’m part of a group that often meets at a Flying Star and we have all noticed the decline over the last few months since the expansion.

  2. Thank you for the comment! I also find the inconsistencies to be on the increase… and the coffee has gone from ‘ok’ to ‘drinkable’ to ‘gas station burnt’. Hmph.
