The sweet/bacon thing has been under the radar for awhile but gaining momentum. Its a good thing, overall. :-)

Daniel,
The vanilla ice cream was totally fine (my only gripe was that it wasn't the caramel-apple that was promised). The second time I had the donut it was TOTALLY different taste and texture wise for the worse and served with the day's special ice cream - Stout. Did not work at all. hmph.

This just does not sound appetizing, at all. It's like my friend experimenting with bacon and maple cookies. (http://iscreamtruck.blogspot.com/2008/05/bacon-cc-cookies-with-maple-glaze.html)

I wonder if this donut inspired him....

That's odd, because the apple ice cream was what I liked best about the dish. I've made bacon maple desserts before (bacon cupcakes with maple frosting, bacon/chocolate chip cookies) and love the salty/sweet combo, but my doughnut tasted nothing like bacon. I guess any restaurant has some inconsistency for the first few months, hopefully they work it out.

Daniel,
I got bacon flavor from the doughnut and not too much yeastyness, but like you not enough maple. I wonder if a nice and strong maple ice cream would be better than the vanilla we were served (even though the menu said "caramel apple ice cream").

My wife and I tried it two weeks ago. The outside crust was good, the ice cream fantastic, but the doughnut itself tasted very strongly of yeast. No bacon flavor, only yeast. The maple sauce on the side was a good idea, but only had a mild taste, which couldn't overcome the yeasty flavor of the doughnut. Disappointing...

I was there just last week and saw it on the menu. Unfortunately I was sufficiently full from the yummy Cubano and great sweet potato fries. Real, fresh donuts are my favorite (and in short supply in ABQ). I can't wait to go back and try it.

You know, I think it's time for a maple bacon redux.

We can start with a maple bacon Old-Fashioned:

What do you think?
