post Exit Rodeo Grill and Enter Gregorio’s Italian Kitchen

October 17th, 2011

And, STAY to the management and kitchen staff as they transition over to the Italian theme of Gregorio’s under the helm of Matt DiGregory.  It’s the same people as Rodeo Grill, which are the same people as The Range, and the same as Standard Diner.

Here’s my issue:  They’ve been open ONE WEEK.  Urbanspoon already has 4 reviews both great and bad.  Give it some time, folks . . . even experienced restauranteurs need time to get things flowing.  Go visit, take notes, wait, go back, think about it…. and then post a review.

Thanks.

P.S. I’m not saying that Gregorio’s is getting any different treatment than most new and hyped joints in town, but this one happened so quickly that I wanted to object in public to the general practice of lobbing critique at brand new restaurants.

  1. I really hope that the transition will be smooth for the owners and staff but that is difficult to achieve. However, I agree, we should give it some time, then we can decide whether they made the right or wrong decision. I hope for the best since I really love Italian food.

  2. If they don’t offer a try-out price, they will get reviewed to the full extent. Easy.

  3. It sounds like you are saying you are willing to be bribed – cheaper food for a better review. Is that correct?

  4. Ha!
No, I think you misunderstood me. Once full tilt open, they are open to reviews.
These are not exactly unexperienced restaurateurs, I believe.

  5. Agreed Andrea. But Urbanspoon (and Yelp) seldom draw serious food reviewers. It is usually best to ignore them. What would be worse would be for a professional food reviewer to make a snarky comment about the place’s food before even visiting.

  6. Hey, rpl.

There are some serious reviewers on Urbanspoon.

    I am one of them.

  7. rpl, I agree in general. It is always hard as a critic to avoid the gossip and the hype and simple evaluate on the straight and narrow. I strive to do that to the best of my ability.

  8. Larry, I have seen your Urbanspoon work, and it is admittedly serious, and often in line with my own opinions. I hope you did notice the words in my #5 post, “seldom”, and “usually”. Your posts are one reason I chose those words. Thanks for your good work, please keep it up.
