The Duke City Does Not Sleep When it Comes to Eating
January 3rd, 2012
….. but I do. Let’s round up some of the latest restaurant gossip, shall we?
Firstly, I did not know that former co-founder of Relish was Chef de Cuisine at Artichoke Cafe. Go, Tony Nethery!
Next, Nob Hill is abuzz with openings, closings, and speculation. A new spot should be coming in where Bumble Bee’s was – called Z, and owned by the Street Food Asia folks. And, Andre’s quietly closed. Did anyone even eat there, aside from the one horrible Urbanspoon review?
And mentions do pop up about people that eat here and love it, like this one about Perea’s.

The “Z” is for Zacatecas…per the Journal business pages it’s supposed to be an “upscale” taqueria/tequila joint. Supposedly someone from the Compound in Santa Fe is involved too? they have a website – http://zacatecastacos.com/ – but no content to date.
A positive development in my book. The hordes at Chipotle suggest there’s a market for slightly dressed up, streety Mexican fare of the non-NM variety, but Bumble Bee never seemed to catch fire, and their hearts just didn’t seem fully committed to the endeavor. A taco/burrito joint at Central and Amherst that closed at 8:30? Hopefully the new establishment will embrace the location and its potential a little more fully…

thanks, Phil – I appreciate you filling in where my memory banks went blank!

No sweat – all I remembered was “Zacatecas” and “tacos,” but fortunately that was enough to turn up the rest.

I don’t think Tony was a founder of Relish. Johnny, Rebecca and Mark started Relish, if I remember right. Tony came later.

Thank you for the correction – I appreciate it! Any chance you know what became of Johnny?

No idea. Sure miss those Cubanos downtown, though.
